Welcome to the Color Laboratory

For those who have been here before, or who prefer to read documentation only in emergencies, begin by using the controls in the frames directly above. The colorpicker to the upper left will allow you to add color swatches.

If you would like to see your own web site through color blind eyes, please try the web page color filter, currently in early development. Your feedback regarding the colorlab and/or color filter is appreciated. Please email aware-colorlab@hwg.org.

About this Color Laboratory

This color laboratory allows you to select colors and see how they appear next to one another, and in various foreground/background combinations. It also allows you to see those colors as they might appear to color-blind users.

Portions of the color laboratory are under various copyrights and are used with permission. For more detail, please read the color laboratory copyright, license, and disclaimer.

This tool would never have existed if not for the previous work of Bob Stein and Thomas Wolfmaier. Bob Stein is proprietor of visibone.com and creates quality printed color references for webmasters. He also created the original colorlab, without which, this color laboratory would never have been possible. Thomas Wolfmaier is founder of the Human-Computer Interaction Resource Network and developed the code to simulate color-blind perception of colors. Without permission to adapt his code, the most significant feature of this color laboratory would probably never have happened.
